okay this is going to be a very very very short post about food and what i've been cooking.

buying groceries at a little store down Bold Street, well the variety of leafy vegetables is limited to lettuce or cabbage mostly but they're really good, and sweet!

grilled chicken fresh out the oven, i've never grilled chicken before this cos we don't have an oven at home. i love ovens! and strangely i'm not the first one who wants it.

kari ikan trout! fish here is damn ex but they're really yummy especially when grilled or fried. ahh, must learn how to fry salmon properly. the ones here are really fresh, and the texture is so much more smoother than the ones you get back in Malaysia.

cooking means having to wash your hair later lest you wish to smell of oil, grease and garlic.

just did my laundry half an hour ago, tried to do some reading there while waiting but ended up taking pictures haih.

one pound dryers, two pound washer, 90 minute wait.

my faithful nokia at f1.4 which i love love love dearly, i just need a new housing.

had lunch at this cosy little bar on the way back from class today. it's located opposite Lime Street Station, looks ordinary from the outside but step inside and you're in a different world altogether. old people and their beers. hushed conversations. a fireplace. slot machines.

this is what Wei Xiang and i shared, all day brunch special with huge Cumberland sausages, bacon, fries, baked beans, eggs sunny side up and the juiciest mushroom evah. five pounds something.

haven't been updating here much because i think i'll need to get things drafted out properly and i haven't exactly been in the mood for thatlah. so here are some pictures and abit of what we've been up to especially in the food department cos that makes us happy. like really happy.

this is Zhong Hwa in Chinatown where students get a 5 percent discount on all purchases. we just bought a carton of Indomie at 8 pounds for 40 packets, eat until die lor. well not really since we shared among ourselves. sigh, so nostalgic to see so many things from home that we used to take for granted. ya i know baru dua minggu kita di sini, eh in dog years that's three years okay! Chinatown is not too far from our campus.

hot chocolate for breakfast in the mornings, 99p only per jar of Cadbury Hot Chocolate.

we usually have Tesco ham, Tesco cheese, Tesco bread and Tesco ketchup for our breakfast sandwiches. ya all Tesco house brand cos cheap.

sun was crazy hot. burns my eyes after awhile and i'm not the kind of person who can withstand heat without wanting to faint. wimp. we headed down to Chinatown after the Induction at Adelphi Hotel. worse Chinatown in the world i swear they make Petaling Street look like Disneyland. then we lugged back 10kilos of rice, soy sauce, oyster sauce and whatnots. damn Chinese i swear. rants aside, reality has started to sink in.

you. are. not. real.

whilst Liverpool is beautiful, it makes me appreciate the little things about Malaysia even more. despite its beauty, i will never find the same comfort the latter gives me.

the weather's beautiful. some days its mild with a hint of breeze, on other days the heat is intense something i don't deal with very well. Liverpool is a colorful place, and i realize that my dire need to photograph has been well fulfilled. i guess it's pretty obvious that i haven't been shooting much in the past few months. still, there still remains a gaping hole yet to be filled. there is a yearning to share, to tell, to tug on the shirt of another and to excitedly yell look! at everything.

but i know that if that is to happen, i will shoot less. i shoot more in contemplative states, when my mind dwells on emotions such as sadness and longing. happy emotions render me useless. i guess in a way, the happiest creatures are fools. it's not a bad thing really, and more than anything i want to be happy but being happy makes me less productive as a person which is a retard of an excuse if you ask me. as i type this, U2's The Sweetest Thing is playing, this is how i feel about us, about life, about these streets that burn of the summer heat.

these days, when i see the hoardes of people clicking away, i feel a sense of pride. memories, regardless if they are good or bad, should be preserved for it is our experiences that define who we are today. after all a picture is a moment that will always live.

should get started on them assignments soon, backache is really getting to me argh.

I've Got A Backache

It's day three here and the weekend is quickly coming to an end, for the first time in months, time seems to have slowed down. The days are longer and hours tick by slowly, literally. Day time is indeed much longer here which is strange in a waylah. I'm tired, I can't write I can't think and whenever I plop myself in front of the laptop I don't feel like talking to anyone cos I'm just so mentally drained and exhausted, don't get me wrong things are great here so far it's just that well, I'm tired.

Alot of pictures these few days and though I intend to include plenty of text I just can't seem to think. I want to sleep. Good night all.

The First Nine Hours

okay reedited text now. it's 8.27 am now. woke up at 6.50, Skyped with the parents, had instant noodles for breakfast since most of us slept the whole night through and now i'm arranging some stuff around.

we flew with Etihad here, transitting at the Abu Dhabi Airport before flying into Manchester Airport and took ages to get through customs.

three hours to Manchester, i woke up whilst most of the plane was still in its stupor to the most beautiful sunrise i'd ever seen.

Summer brings out the crowds and people are all just lazing around in their own skin, very pretty sight really.

24 Hours and Counting

i am compelled to write if only a few words though i have much to say, but would rather spend these last few moments with company that matter. but instead this is not so. stupid stomach ache! tai sei lah eat chilli some more dahlah tau perut tu intolerant and beh tahan anything red shiny shimmery splendid. okay, sakitlah you get the idea. we leave tomorrow, some of us and the rest on consequent days ahead. i am neither excited nor sad, i am merely waiting and when i get there, i suppose i will then know what i am to feel.

strangely, i am more excited to see i am to resume life once i get back to KL. for starters, i'm getting shelves.

i am still working on them reading logs which i hope to finish by this week (i will i will!). there's only 8 days left till flying, am strangely not looking forward to it at all i guess it'll only hit me once i get there. and if that's not bad enough oh hello swine flu! the Japanese estimates a wipeout of over 30 percent of the global population if preventive steps are not taken in controlling the spread of this disease. sigh.

Trips and Prints

Short update! I just packed some of my stuff, clothes here and there, spent most of the day at IKEA and ended up getting jealous at their room designs. I so need shelves at home. Forum contributions have officially closed *fist pump* and now all that's left to do is the rest of the reading logs, can't wait to be done and over with those. Got an email from the uni the other day about trips! There'll be student trips to Alton Towers, York, Edinburgh and Lake District. And for football friendlies, there'll be matches by Liverpool and Everton haih tak syok. MAN U won last night so happy can die!!!!!!

oh yeah am supposed to do them reading logs and another essay plan but nooooooo here i am finding every possible excuse to skive, good job girl.

hello, my name is Szetoo and no for the millionth time, that name is not Japanese (for heaven's sake, use Google will ya) and yes, this is a little documentary travel educational (read: boring text with the occasional okay probably frequent insertion of pictures) blog which i've set up for the following purposes:

1. to assist in my failing memory
like all other women, i tend to have the tendency to remember what i wish to remember, usually the unimportant, the unnecessary or someone else's list of things to do rather than my own. i once read in the papers that women have this squirrel like tendency to store nuts (little details basically) and then take them out only when they need them (and use them against men cos men, as we all know have the failing memory of a bar counter peanut). i'm not really that kind of female if you ask me but then again, women also have the ability to make men think that it's their faults and that they're wrong.

again, i am not that sort. the writer of that article obviously hates women. well like i said, i forget a lot of details sometimes and dahlah i'm paying almost 30K for this i had better remember the whole lot of it to remind me to slave my ass off to pay back my folks once i graduate.

2. to fulfill my irrational need to complain and look professional at that.
anything in print or in written form is usually taken much more seriously than utter gibberish speech. correct right tak salah kan you pergi gahmen or corprate sektor semua nak hitam-putih, kalau tak, tak layan langsung okay. i understand that people despise irritating whiny Asians. well that's the angmohs' problems.

3. as reference for future TARC students who wish to pursue this 3 months degree conversion programme to Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU)
hi, the reason why this Liverpool trip is happening is cos i have an Advanced Diploma and voila, it's not recognizable here in Malaysia cos the name is too long and unglamorous cos it sounds like an extension of the Diploma itself so, jeng jeng jeng, TAR College has devised this marvellous plan in which it collaborates with an overseas uni namely Liverpool John Moores University so that it's students not only obtain an overseas Degree (which is like dang coveted among local companies and family members here in Malaysia, wah your son from OVERSEAS UNI AH WAH SO KENG CHOW HOR!) and the overseas experience.

In the next post, I'll update more on procedures, notable airlines, what to expect and stuff like that. Will be flying off with the classmates on the 28th of May (that's like two weeks from now i dowan to gooooooo, ooooh ironically a plane just flew by!) from KLIA at 9pm so if you see a large bunch of us Chinese sepet noisy kids, that's US!

My mother is already fussing about plates and rice and washing powder and has even bought fish curry paste and chicken curry perencah for me omg -__-

there'll be info on my course, flight stuff, adventures there (harhar), pictures, getting lost, best places to shop, how to live frugally, how to survive LDR and how to survive the whole three months there basically. it's sorta like a help guide for students (especially future TAR College students who intend to go on this course in the future). i know i sorta complain alot but don't take me seriously, that's just melah i tend to exaggerate problems sometimes, bad habit!

it'll be cool! i'll bring in voluntary contributors as well (coursemates!) and they'll give you their two cents worth about life there on the site as well (can rightttt?). layout is quite plain for now but i'll touch up once i have free time or if someone can help :)
